Some projects start with a client brief. This one started with a joke between friends. Mi Fac Centrale Fighter is a retro beat’em up set at the Fac Centrale in Algiers, where you take on — with plenty of humour — the situations and characters every Maths-CS student will recognise.

The idea

  • An old-school pixel-art beat’em up, playable right in the browser.
  • Solo, two players on the same screen, or up to six players online.
  • A leaderboard to find out who in the class lasts the longest.
  • Also available for Windows and macOS.

What the project taught me

A game forgives nothing: a skipped animation frame or a laggy key press is noticed instantly. I had to polish the game loop, handle keyboard and gamepad input reliably, and keep online players in sync without the fight becoming unfair for whoever has the weakest connection.

Why share it

Because a “just for fun” project is often the best learning ground. With no client and no deadline, you can try ideas, fail and start again. And watching old classmates laugh while playing is a great reward.

Play it

The game is available here: mataa.me/mi_fcfighter. Feedback is welcome, especially from anyone who spent years at the Fac Centrale.
